Kiyomi Murakami

Interview with Kiyomi Murakami (Japan)

What did it feel like to be a winner at the International Trend Vision Awards 2004?
Winning that award was without doubt the high point in my career so far. But also, the moment when the winning country was called out was simply indescribable: I was absolutely bubbling over with joy, happiness and gratitude! Also, I was just really happy to have exceeded the expectations of my boss and colleagues by winning the Gold Award.

How did winning the award change things?
My life, so to speak, has changed completely. For one thing, I've been a member of the Taya creative team ever since, and for another thing, I get job offers for photoshoots, seminars and hair shows, things I've always dreamt about. I'm very much aware that the Gold Award is a great opportunity and I'd like to take this chance to thank Wella.

What fascinates you about this shooting?
First of all, it's a great honour to be able to take part in this workshop. I've followed the events of recent years with great interest and the interpretations of the top stylists have been breathtaking, fascinating and inspiring. To be given the opportunity myself of presenting creativity and professional skills on an international platform is a great honour. Moreover, to me it's a fantastic challenge to be one of the stylists interpreting the 40 plus theme at this shooting.

How do you feel about the 40 plus interpretations?
Both fantastic and exciting, because, in my opinion, with this hair and fashion creation it was much more difficult to interpret the World Fusion trend authentically. However, I think it has been worth all the effort because the results speak for themselves and show that maturity and an affinity to trends in no way conflict with each other.

What inspires you?
Music, regardless of whether it's classical or modern, inspires me and fills me with enthusiasm.

What marks a good stylist?
Besides their know-how, they should have a feeling for trends and developments in society. Also, a good stylist should be constantly updating their knowledge, constantly avoiding stagnation.
