Dimitry Vinokurov is one of the avant-garde hairstylists on the Russian scene, and has become
a very familiar name on the international stylist stage as well. Born in Moscow in 1971, Vinokurov first trained as a tailor with the fashion designer Slava Zaitsev. “Slava always used to incorporate accessories in the models’ hair for his fashion shows, or hide their hair completely under headgear. However, I thought that hair itself was a marvellous, adaptable accessory. So quite quickly, the ambition was born in me to become a hairstylist.”
By styling the models for Zaitsev’s collections,
Vinokurov soon developed a taste for the catwalk. He celebrated his first international successes with his extravagant hair shows – including some on the Wella stage – during Hair World in Berlin 2000. He also made an impression with his interpretations at Trend Vision 2002: City Bird of Paradise, Prismatic Diva and Modern Eve. Today, Vinokurov operates two salons in Moscow, and also has his own training centre for stylists.

When did you first become aware of Wella? I produced a show for Lifetex entitled “Harmony of Movement” as part of the competition “World of Beauty”, a cooperation between the magazine Geo and Wella. After the com-
petition, I toured with the show all over Russia for Wella.
What, for you, makes Wella a special business partner? I just think that Wella’s philosophy is a sound one: the main emphasis
is on the hairstylist.
What, in your opinion, is special about Trend Vision? I like the fact that trends and trend developments are so important for Wella, and that the trends shape themselves so ob-
viously and understandably.
As a hairstylist, what would you still really like to achieve? For me, my profession is a vocation. I hope that I can remain healthy and will be able to stand behind my customers for many years to come, helping to make them look more beautiful.
Do you follow a particular philosophy in your work? The most important person is the stylist!
