Stefano Milani

Stefano Milani, born in Bologna in 1963, is one of Italy’s leading hairstylists. After training as a graphic designer, a girlfriend took him along to her father’s salon: “And that was me hooked! When I saw how women went in and came out again later looking more beautiful, my mind was made up. I was going to be a hairstylist.” He remained true to his career promise, and also to the salon where he began to learn his trade in 1983, and which he ended up taking over: the Equipe Vittorio Giordani, in Bologna. “At first, I really had to slave away at it to learn the skills so that I could finally put my ideas into practice.” Today, Milani and his team pass on their skills to other stylists through training courses and seminars. Milani, the coordinator and creative head of the stylist artistic team, or “Mitů”, as he is known, is now the owner of five salons employing around 60 staff.

When did you first become aware of Wella?
Right at the beginning of my career. We had Wella products in the salon. Nothing has changed in that regard since then.

What, for you, makes Wella a special business partner?
In my opinion, the professionalism, the quality of the products and the seminar service – in general, the special focus on the stylist.

What, in your opinion, is special about Trend Vision?
I just find it exciting how sociocultural developments can be expressed as trends and then finally transformed into hairstyles.

As a hairstylist, what would you still really like to achieve?
In professional terms, I would like never to grow “old”, and never say of myself that I had “made it”.

Which technique for the future are you particularly fond of?
I think it’s a real shame that many of the traditional techniques, such as making waves, which have been practised for decades, are no longer used today. Especially today, such techniques would have a special charm.

Do you follow a particular philosophy in your work?
My philosophy is that my customers don’t just get a “new head”, but also a new attitude to life.

What do you think is the source of your creativity?
I believe you have this source inside you. In my case, it’s an incessant curiosity about things which are different, and which are not part of my everyday routine.
