Penny Etheridge was born – as she puts it herself – in Southampton on a beautiful day in spring. Her career began as a “Saturday girl” in a hairdressing salon, to earn a little extra cash by shampooing and sweeping up hair clippings. After school, at the age of 16, she began to train for two different professions: ballet dancing and hairdressing. Two years later, she decided to concentrate fully on hairdressing. However, it didn’t keep her in the salon for very long: “I had already been on the stage as a ballet dancer, and I didn’t want to give that up, not even as a hairstylist.” The petite Englishwoman today owns three salons in Southampton, Bournemouth and Winchester, as well as a spa and health club, with a total of 70 staff. |

When did you first become aware of Wella? When I started as a “Saturday girl” – because Wella products were used in the salon.
What, for you, makes Wella a special business partner? I’ve been working with Wella for about one and a half years – and there are very good reasons for that: more freedom, more opportunities to work creatively and to be constantly learning from seminars.
What, in your opinion, is special about Trend Vision? It makes the avant-garde more visible. It presents a kind of “haute coiffure”.
As a hairstylist, what ambitions do you still have? To win a prestigious hairstyling competition one day.
Which technique are you particularly interested in for the future? Reshaping is particularly important to me. Bringing texture and volume to hair is a great challenge.
Do you follow a particular philosophy
in your work? Yes indeed: hunger after knowledge and excellence, and you’ll never
go hungry in life!
What do you think is the source of your creativity? I derive my inspiration from contemporary designers, but also from the theatre.
