Jean Philippe Farrugia

Jean Philippe Farrugia was born in Montauban, near Toulouse, in 1971. He had an early interest in becoming a hotelier, but in 1988 decided to follow in the career footsteps of his brother and became a hairstylist. Even during his early training in the Jean Claude Aubry salon in Toulouse, he was soon trying out his creative ideas.

From the very beginning, he was driven by the ambition to create something new, and to work artistically and creatively. A keen angler, Farrugia is also director of the hairstylists’ group “Moreno”, which comprises more than 100 international salons and employs some 500 stylists.

When did you first become aware of Wella?
In 2000. I’ve been working as a freelancer for Wella ever since.

What, for you, makes Wella a special business partner?
Wella simply has a clear customer focus, in other words, a focus on the stylist. Wella understands the industry like no other company does.

What, in your opinion, is special about Trend Vision?
First of all, it’s a great honour for me to be involved in such a major project. It’s a real pleasure to work with so many different cultures. I think it’s important to analyse each particular trend carefully, to respect it, and then to transform it into revolutionary “hairstyle messages”.

As a hairstylist, what would you still really like to achieve?
Never to stand still!

Which technique are you particularly interested in for the future?
I would like to generally share my passion by conveying my professional knowledge and the ken of the world of hairdressers to others.

What do you think is the source of your creativity?
I think you need to have a certain mentality in order to be creative. You need to keep your eyes open, be a good observer and try to absorb from around you as much as possible. I’m inspired by elements of architecture, and by what I see in fashion magazines. Many avant-garde developments derive from a combination of elements from Latin and Anglo-Saxon culture.
